HALIFAX, N.S. – The Halifax Hurricanes overcame their second-half struggles and cruised to a 96-88 win over the visiting Saint John Riptide at Scotiabank Centre on Thursday night.
The Hurricanes welcomed three new players to the rotation for the game. Returning for another run is Rhamel Brown, who provided steady defence and a post presence last season. New Hurricanes Gabe Freeman and Robinson Odoch Opong also joined the team. National Basketball League of Canada veteran Freeman was signed earlier this week and brings scoring punch at the forward position to the Hurricanes.
Thursday's game saw numerous lead changes and ties and stayed close through three quarters.
It was the Hurricane's bench that took control of the game. Led by Jordan Washington who had a team-high 16, Malcolm Duvivier and Kedar Edwards, the bench crew scored 48 points on the night.
New Hurricanes Gabe Freeman got a feel for the new offence on his way to 15 points.
The Hurricanes head to Saint John for a rematch on Sunday, Nov 25. You can catch that game via live stream starting at 2 p.m.
The Hurricanes come back home again on Saturday, Dec. 1. That night, they'll host the KW Titans at 7 p.m. at Scotiabank Centre. Tickets for that game are available at the Ticket Atlantic Box Office or online.
